v Dartfordians and Sidcup

Sunday 11 December 2011
@ Folkestone
First game was against home side Folkestone;
both teams agreed to play the newest players in the squad to give
them some much needed experience. Bourne’s newest player
Blake Crowhurst, who only started training two weeks previous,
took to the challenge and scored a debut hat-trick. The excellent
performance was completed by a further two tries from Luke Jeffery
and one by Ted Shand giving Bourne’s newest players a well-deserved
30-0 win.
The second game was a tale of two halves. In
the first Canterbury took control of the game scoring 2 very good
tries to give them a solid half time lead. Following some key
changes, Bourne started the second with renewed belief and after
some sustained pressure Ted Shand sold Canterbury’s players
three dummy passes to score the opener. This was followed by another
very good hat-trick again from the new boy Blake Crowhurst. Harry
Talbot in the final minute showed his superior pace and strength
by running from his own half, down the wing resisting all tackles
to finally cross the line in the corner for Bourne’s fifth.
Final score 25-10.
Folkestone and Sittingbourne had a second game
but this time starting with their strongest sides. The game ebbed
and flowed for much of the time with both teams defending very
well. Following some very good rucking and mauling some space
appeared which Luke Hurton exploited to score and give his side
a very slim half time lead. Folkestone were caught napping at
the start of the second half. The kick off went to Joshua Hatch,
Bourne’s fastest player, who managed to side step his way
through the defence before showing his pace by running from half
way to score the second. The rest of the game was a repeat of
the first half with both teams playing good rugby and defending
with excellence. Final score 10-0 to Bourne.
Man of the Match was awarded to Blake for his
debut hat-tricks and his will to succeed.

3rd East Kent Tournament at Sittingbourne

Sittingbourne fielded one full team with 2 new
players and no subs and one Barbarian team with 10 Bourne players,
plus 4 boys from other clubs.
Sittingbourne got off to a slow start against what turned out
to be completion winners Deal & Betts, and although beaten
put in a valiant effort losing 6-0.
The second game was much better from Bourne; the new boys were
now finding their feet and getting involved in all phases of play.
The commitment put in by the players kept top class opposition
Canterbury from running away with the match only narrowly losing
by two tries.
Whitstable were Bourne’s third match of the group and the
point where some of the more experience players were giving the
newer boys the confidence they needed and leading them to some
excellent phases of play. Both teams attacked very well but defended
better which meant at the final whistle there was nothing between
them a 0-0 draw being the result.
The last game the boys were heard saying amongst themselves that
in this final game they were playing to restore some pride and
although not needed to they played their best rugby of the day.
The team started with renewed confidence and following a big team
effort, Cameron Donaldson eventually opened their account with
a well worked try. Before the finish two more boys Cody Scott-Waller
and William Sutton had scored. The opposition Thanet Wanderers
B did manage to get one of their own but Bourne left the pitch
to much deserved applause winning 3-1.
Sittingbourne’s full team was Man of the Match Keiran Hughes,
Ben Simmons, William Sutton, Jake Jeffery, Luc Jeffery, Rupert
Howe, Jamie Gash, Cameron Donaldson, Oliver Cooksley, Adam Bartlett,
Ryan Creasey, Callum Aitkin
The Barbarians started opening match was against Thanet A, eventual
runners-up in the Group. This was one of them that could have
gone either way both teams very evenly matched. Thanet were the
ones to get the break and scored the only try giving them the
win 1-0.
Next up was Ashford Saxons, again another very close affair
with not much between the sides, the first half Jake Rix and Ted
Shand did manage to score for the Baabaar’s giving them
a good 2 try lead at half time. The Saxons came out in the second
half with renewed vigor and purpose, the Barbarians solid defence
made the difference stopping the Saxons in their attempts to score
and taking the win 2-0.
Folkestone were the third opponents for the Barbarians who were
now starting to believe in themselves. Jake Rix was involved in
most of the action on the pitch and again got the opening try
he deserved. The second half see some changes to the Baabaar’s
side and Canterbury supplied some new players two of whom made
an impact, Max White and Joe Gransden both scored very good tries
giving the Barbarians their second win 15-0.
The last group game would decide which team would progress into
the Plate final either team could do it. It was again a very even
match both sides defending excellently. The break came in the
last moments and Ash scored to secure the win and take them to
the final which they won.
The organisers were very pleased and would like to pass on their
thanks to Canterbury and Deal Betts for loaning players to make
up a Barbarians team, with the 10 Sittingbourne players who were
Man of the Match Oliver Dawes, Jacob Butler, Jake Rix, Cody Scott-Waller,
Ted Shand, Harry Talbot, Luke Snare, Joshua Hatch, Ben Yardley,
Ben Hatser-Moulson.

Canterbury Festival
Sittingbourne U12's only played two group games
and a Final at the Canterbury Festival and all games were hard
close fought affairs with one try deciding all matches.
First group game was against hosts Canterbury. Bourne won the
physical aspects of the game while the hosts shone in the excellent
handling. One lapse of concentration by Bourne was punished and
Canterbury scored the try to win 5-0.
The second group game was against Folkestone. Bourne were hoping
it wasn’t going to be a repeat of last year’s score
of Folkestone 25 Bourne 0. Clearly Bourne had improved a lot and
this game was a hard fought battle with both sides defending well.
Folkestone were to be the ones to let concentration lapse which
Bourne immediately took advantage of and Jake Rix scored the only
try to win 5-0.
Bourne finished the group as runners up which put them into the
Plate Final against Cranbrook. This match like the others was
very close and either side could have won. Bourne looked likely
to get the first try, but following a sustained period of being
under attack Cranbrook got the break and scored which left Bourne
suffering their second defeat by one try. Final score Cranbrook
5 Bourne 0 .
The parents and coaching staff all praised the boys for the good
rugby played and certainly didn’t deserve to lose any games.
Squad; Adam Bartlett, Jacob Butler, Oliver Cooksley, Ryan Creasey,

Medway Festival
Sittingbourne U12's first match was against
Medway B. From the whistle Bourne took control of the match but
with silly mistakes and infringements most attacks were overturned
and at one point they were defending with all they had just to
keep Medway out. Eventually Bourne got their act together and
started making ground. Then following a line-out a maul was set
which the forwards pushed 10 metres and just before the try line
one of Bourne's most experienced players peeled off to score the
first try. Medway to their credit never gave up a with very good
defending kept Bourne out and the final score at 5-0.
Bourne didn't waste any time in the second match against Whitstable.
Within two minutes Jake Rix again showed his determination by
scoring the opener and went on to score a second later on. With
the forwards in dominant form it wasn't long before Prop Ben Simmons
charged over the line for the first of his two tries. The next
try was one of the best of the day for Bourne. From a scrum 25
metres from Whitstables try line the scrum half Ted Shand got
the ball out to the backs and with some excellent interchange
of passing the ball was popped up for Jacob Butler to cross the
line to score again for Bourne giving them the win 25-0.
Bourne were under attack from the whistle in their 3rd match
and despite some excellent defending Oaks managed to score two
tries to win 10-0
The last group game's opponents were previous competition winner's
and unbeaten Upminster. Although on paper Upminster should have
won this match with ease Bourne were in no mood to let them have
it all their own way. Upminster eventually broke the deadlock
to score the first of two tries. Not giving up Bourne's determination
eventually showed and Oliver Dawes scored a consolation try. Final
score 10-5 to Upminster.
Bourne finished 3rd in their group and went on to a play off
with Blackheath. Although every boy on the pitch gave 100% Blackheath
proved to strong on the day and took the win 15-0. The coaches
and parents were very pleased with the boys performance and applauded
the whole team.
