v Dartfordians
HAT TRICK FOR JAMES!
The Darfordians hosted Sittingbourne and Sidcup at the weekend. Bourne Under-11s were three players short of a full squad. Their first match against the Dartford A team resulted in a 4 - 0 defeat despite great tackles from Charlie Ritchie and James Vigar.
Bourne's second game against Dartfords B team was a much better contested affair with Bourne fighting hard to keep possession of the ball, and a brilliant gut pass from Yemi Alakija to James Vigar gave Bourne their first try of the day. In the second half of the match, with new player Harry Bridges getting stuck in, Bourne looked an improved team, with Charlie Ritchie making a try-saving tackle and James Vigar getting his second try of the day, putting Bourne level with the Darfordians. Bourne continued to push hard but a last minute try from Dartford left them finishing the winners 3 - 2.
The final match of the day against Sidcup saw Bourne off to a slow start with the score at 5 - 0 in the first half. Bourne needed to dig deep and with a valiant effort and superb tackling from Regan Williams and Luke Saunders, Bourne held off any further tries from Sidcup. In the last minutes of the game James Vigar broke free and crashed over the line to score his hat trick for the day.
Man of the Match went to Charlie Ritchie
Squad: Yemi Alakija, Harry Bridges, Connor Chell, Charlie Ritchie, Luke Saunders, Owen Sigsworth, Reece Williams, Reagan Williams, James Vigar

v Aylesford and Thurrock @ Sittingbourne
We hosted two teams today. Aylesford and Thurrock. A good turnout saw nearly 45 boys at our age group. After a warm up and some round robin training we went straight into matches.
Our first match was against a well drilled Aylesford side. Bourne were caught with a Christmas hang over and lost 6-0.
Our second match was again against Aylesford. This time Bourne weren't caught cold. Bourne used the ball better in this match and consistent pressure saw Fred Ward go over in the corner to put Bourne 1-0 up. Then it was the forwards' turn to control the match. Bourne’s scrum began to work well and Yami Alakija with the support of the rest of the forwards powered over to make it 2-0 to Bourne. Aylesford came back hard and managed to pull a try back. Once again Bourne forwards took control from a maul in the corner and Yami Alakija once again showed his power by scoring in the corner. The match was set up for a nail biter when Aylesford again scored to make it 3-2. A late try from a guest player for Bourne made it 4-2 to Bourne. A well-deserved victory.
Thurrock then lost 4-2 to Aylesford. Bourne’s last match was against Thurrock. The break in matches seemed to effect Bourne who were caught asleep and found themselves 2-0 down almost straight away. Bourne continued to battle on but eventually lost 5-0 which was a disappointing result.
Man of the Match went to Yami Alakja for two outstanding try’s. Endeavour went to James Vigar for great tackling.
Full Squad: Olayemi Alakija, ,Sam Daly, Connor Chell, Charlie Ritchie, Luke Saunders, Owain Sigsworth, James Vigar, Liam Walsh, Fred Ward, Reece Williams and Reagan Williams.

@ Folkestone
We were at Folkstone today who were hosting
Bourne and Canterbury. After a warm up we went straight into matches.
First match was against Canterbury. Great defence from the Bourne
boys saw the match reach nearly half time before Canterbury scored
after a couple of missed tackles. The second half was very similar
with Canterbury scoring late on to make it 2-0.
The second match was against Folkstone. Bourne started well and
dominated possession. Their constant pressure finally paying off
when Charlie Ritchie went over to make it 1-0. A great run by
Reece Williams saw him finish off with a try to make it 2-0 to
Bourne at half time. Folkstone started the second half the stronger,
scoring twice to level the score 2-2. Bourne dug deep and James
Vigar finished off a period of Bourne pressure with a try after
some powerful running to make the final score 3-2 to Bourne.
Bournes final game was against a changed Folkstone side. Folkstone
looked the fresher in the early stages and managed to score a
try to make it 1-0. Bourne fought back and had the ball over the
try line but couldn't ground it. The second half saw Folkstone
take control with 2 more tries to make the final score 3-0.
A group endeavour award was given to the whole squad for not
giving up during any of the matches. Man of the Match went to
Owain Sigsworth for committed play in all matches.
Squad: Connor Chell, Sam Daly, Charlie Ritchie, Owain Sigsworth,
Harry Slack, James Vigar, Reece Williams, Luke Saunders and Fred

Westcombe Park and Dover @ Sittingbourne
Today Bourne hosted Westcombe Park and Dover
rugby clubs. It was Westcombe's first ever visit to the Gore Court.
After a quick warm up we got straight into the matches.
Bourne's first match was against Dover. A joint Sittingbourne
and Sheppey Side took to the field. Dover had a lot of possession
but good defence from Bourne kept them at bay. Reece Williams
scored a fantastic try running 3/4 length of the field and beating
several players to give Bourne a 1-0 lead. The second half was
a close affair with no one getting the upper hand. When Fred Ward
scored in the corner for Bourne to make it 2-0, the game was out
of Dover's reach. Bourne closed the match out with good up front
play. Final score 2-0 to Bourne.
Bourne's second match was against Westcombe Park. This was the
closest match of the day. Possession ebbed and flowed with no
one team dominating the match. Westcombe Park managed to crash
over for a 1-0 lead. Bourne responded positively with Sam Daly
scoring after a mazy run. Westcombe kept the pressure on and scored
again before the final whistle to finish 2-1 winners.
Bourne's third match was against Dover again. This time Bourne
dominated possession and used the ball to better effect. Charlie
Ritchie scored for Bourne to make it 1-0. Then with the best move
of the day Bourne got the ball from the base of the scrum and
slick passing by Slack, Ritchie and Daly saw Fred Ward go over
in the corner for his second try of the day to give Bourne a well-deserved
2-0 lead. Dover did get one try back but the final score was 2-1
to Bourne.
Bourne's last match of the day was again against Westcombe Park.
Bourne started well and nearly scored but the ball was held up
over the try line. Westcombe's size up front started to tell and
they crashed over to take a 1-0 lead. Bourne appeared to be getting
tired with Westcombe dominating the scrum area. Bourne continued
to contest well, with James Vigar and Reagan Williams working
well at the breakdown. A lapse in concentration saw Westcombe
score in the corner to make the final score 2-0.
MOM went to Luke Saunders for good all- round play. Endeavour
to Fred Ward who was returning after injury. Thanks also to the
5 Sheppey boys who all played well.
Squad: Connor Chell, Sam Daly, Charlie Ritchie, Owain Sigsworth,
Harry Slack, James Vigar, Reece Williams, Luke Saunders, Fred
Ward and Reagan Williams.

Bromley and Dartfordians
Today we travelled to Bromley RFU. They were
hosting us and Dartfordians. After a quick warm-up we went straight
into Matches.
Bourne's first match was against Bromley B. It was a very close
game. Some good rucking and mauling saw Bourne dominate possession.
Reagan Williams broke off a maul near the Bromley line to score
his first ever try and give Bourne a well-deserved 1-0 lead. Bromley
fought hard to get back into the match and equalized. With the
last play of the game Reece Williams scored a good interception
try for Bourne to give them a 2-1 lead and a well-deserved win.
The second match was against Dartfordians. Once again a very
closely contested match saw a 0-0 score line at half time. Bourne
came out in the second half with added vigour and once again dominated
possession. A Bromley player playing for Bourne broke through
Dartfordians defences and gave Bourne a 1-0 lead. However with
the last play of the game Bourne were caught napping and Dartfordians
scored in the corner after some poor tackling. Final score 1-1.
The third match was against a Bromley B side. A joint Barbarians
team of Bourne and Dartfordians took to the field. Once again
the match was very close. It ebbed and flowed. With no score in
the first half it was all to play for in the second half. Bromley
started to get on top at the break down. After a lot of pressure
they scored to make the final score 1-0 to Bromley.
The last match was against Bromley A. A better organised Bromley
team tried to 'Boss' the game but once again good play up front
saw Bourne hold their own. Bromley scored first but Bourne's heads
didn't drop and Charlie Ritchie scored a great break away try
to level the scores. However the pressure remained on a dedicated
Bourne side and eventually Bromley scored to finish 2-1 winners.
Man of the Match went to Charlie Ritchie for good all round play.
Endeavour went to Reagan Williams for his play in the tight and
scoring.
A good team performance against two very large clubs was acknowledged
by all the coaches.

East Kent Tournament at Folkestone
Sittingbourne under 11s were at FOLKSTONE today
for the East Kent festival. Unfortunately Bourne only had 11 players
for the fixture but were determined to do better than they had
done at the Medway Festival. Bourne were drawn in a group with
Ashford, Folkstone, and Ash.
Bourne's first match was against ASHFORD - probably the strongest
team at the Festival. Bourne got off to a good start holding their
own in the forwards, but the lack of players in the backs started
to take its toll with Ashford going in at half time 2-0 up. The
second half saw Bourne dominate possession but unable to score,
a strong Ashford side eventually winning 4-0.
Bourne's second game was a much tighter affair against FOLKSTONE.
Both sides contested well up front. Harry Slack linked well with
Charlie Ritchie and Sam Daly from the base of the scrum. James
Vigar scored a try to give Bourne a 1-0 lead. Folkstone scored
before half time so the teams went in level at 1-1. The second
half was again closely contested. Bourne appeared to be gaining
the upper hand with Charlie Ritchie running 3/4 length of the
pitch to score a great try. Reagan Williams got a wrist injury
which meant a team reshuffle and Bourne now playing two short.
The ref's watch seemed to be running very slow with the last play
of the match Folkstone scored to make it 2-2. James Creedon-Kitchen
also suffered a knee injury which meant that he and Reagan Williams
would be unable to play in the final match. Bourne took to the
field with only 9 players but Dover came to the rescue and helped
out with 3 players
The last match was against ASH. Bourne dominated territory but
with so many player out of position it was hard for Bourne to
get a grip on the match. Charlie Ritchie crashed over for his
second try of the day to give Bourne a 1-0 lead. It looked like
Bourne would hang on for a well deserved win but Ash scored late
on from the base of the scrum to level 1-1.
Man of the Match went to Sam DALY good tackling. ENDEAVOUR went
to Harry SLACK for good passing
Squad: Olayemi Alakija, Connor Chell,James Creedon-Kitchen,

Medway Festival

At the Medway Festival we were
drawn in a group with Upminster, Whitstable and Medway. The first
match was against Upminster. As normal Bourne started slowly and
were totally outplayed by a well drilled Upminster side, the final
score being 8-0. The only positive from the match was that Bourne
didn’t give up and played right to the end.
The second game was against Whitstable,
a much improved performance saw Bourne compete at all aspects
of the game with the forwards winning most of the scrums. The
game was very tight with Whitstable finally winning 1-0. Our last
group game was against Medway, again the game was close. Medway
started fast and scored two quick tries. It was only then that
Bourne started to play. A half time talk seemed to do the trick.
The second half saw a great try from Fred Ward in the corner after
a scrum win and good use of the backs. The final score being 3-1
to Medway.
This meant the Bourne boys had
sit around for an hour waiting for the other half of the group
to finish. Eventually it was Gravesend who Bourne were due to
play in the final stages. The teams were well matched. Gravesend
took an early lead with Fred Ward again scoring a good try for
Bourne to level the scores. Gravesend came back again and lead
2-1. However Bourne didn’t give up and Yemi Alakija scored
a great try after much good work and effort from the forwards
to level the match 2-2. That’s how it stayed. The whole
team won the Endeavour award for not giving up and Fred Ward won
Man of the Match.
