U10 MATCH REPORTS

Sunday 29 January 2012
v Dartfordians

Sittingbourne U10s travelled to Dartfordians knowing they were equally matched. However, in our worst performance of the season we struggled and did well to keep it to a 2-1 defeat. Nathan Gash was the the only player looking awake and Rhys Price scored the try.

After strong words from the coach we played Dartfordian A and the boys started to look like a rugby team again. After three last ditch try saving tackles from Josh Baran, Frasier Ewan and Davey Marsh, we held them to a 2-2 draw, Luke Franks and Davey Marsh scoring.

Nathan Gash was Man Of Match

v Thurrock and Aylesford @ Sittingbourne

Sittingbourne started well in attack after the New Year break, showing good hands around the park. Their first opponents were Thurrock, a team that we have not played before. They were a good side who rucked well and tackled strongly. We lost 4-2 with Davey scoring both, but they were really team tries.

Aylesford were next and we came out fired up. We dominated in the scrum and new player Chris won good lineout ball in only his 3rd week and scored his first try. Other try scorers were Davey, Frasier, Scott and Adam. Sittingbourne ran out 5-0 winners. Chris got man of match for all -round improvement.

@ Folkestone

It was a good effort from the nine boys who travelled to Folkestone, being four short including our two props meant they had to work twice as hard.

We lost to Canterbury 2-1, Rhys Price scoring our try. Rhys again scored along with Davey Marsh in a 3-2 defeat to Folkestone. We put in extra effort in when we played Canterbury again, beating them 2-0 with Davey scoring both. Tiredness got the better of us in our last game and we lost 5-0 against Folkestone who had enough players to change five players at half time. Davey Marsh was man of the match not for try scoring but his play at the break down and he put in at least three try saving tackles.

Westcombe Park and Dover @ Sittingbourne

Sittingbourne U10s played hosts to Dover Sheppey and for the first time Westcombe Park. First up was a much improved Sheppey and with the pack giving the team a good platform we went on to win 4-1, Davey, Josh, Luke and Aiden scoring.

Westcombe Park was next and they showed was a good side they was but this did not phase the boys and after conceding a try in the first half we battled back and pinned them in thier third of the pitch for the whole second half. It was only harsh fair reffing by Sittingbourne that stopped Bourne equalising in the last minute.

Against Dover we again dominated in the forwards with Muammer scoring his first try for the club and Josh and Davey rounding off the scoring.

Squad was Josh Baran, Aiden Hicks, Fraser Ewan, Morgan Laws, Daniel Coleman, Scott Heathfield, Adam Snare, Luke Franks, Rhys Price, Nathan Gash, Muammer Cinar and Davey Marsh. Josh Baran was man of the match.

Bromley and Dartfordians

Sittingbourne U10s travelled to Bromley to face tough opposition in Bromley and Dartfordians, a task made harder with 4 players missing. After two warm up games against Darts A and B sides things were not looking good after losing both games.

We then went to play in a mini A tournament, Sittingbourne won a coin toss and as we had no subs we decided to sit out the semi and take a by to the final. Bromley were beaten so Dartfordians A team was our opposition, after already being beaten by them we were the underdogs. The boys did us all proud and went on to win 4-1 with superb defence from our small guys which I think inspired the bigger lads to lift their game. Try scorers were Davey Marsh, Scott Heathfield and two from Josh Baran. Aiden Hicks was back to his fiery best but Davey got man of the match for all round play.

The squad was Davey Marsh, Aiden Hicks, Scott Heathfield, Morgan Laws, Josh Baran, Nathan Gash, Muammer Cinar, Daniel Coleman and Adam Snare.

East Kent Tournament at Folkestone

Sittingbourne Under 10's travelled to Folkestone for the East Kent tournament Sunday 6th November hoping to improve on last year's 3 defeats and a draw.

They flew out of the blocks beating Ash 2-0, Davey Marsh and Luke Franks scoring the tries. They went to sleep against a beatable Canterbury losing 6-0 with Scott Heathfield having the only positive performance.

Next up was Deal, Bourne came back well to earn a 1-1 draw with Davey Marsh again going over the try line. Our last game was against a Thanet that had not dropped a point until we held them to a 0-0 draw.

Scott Heathfield was man of the match showing small guys can tackle hard if they get the technique right and play with passion and aggression.

Sunday 9 October 2011
Canterbury Festival

Sittingbourne under 10’s started well with a draw against a good Folkestone side. After that our performances slid uncharactiscally losing 6-0 to a very strong Blackheath and 3-2 to Cranbrook, our tries coming from Davey Marsh and Rhys Price. Our last game was against Ashford and we held them to a 1-1 draw with Davey again on the score sheet.

The performance the week before at the Medway festival took its toll where we came away group runners up. Thomas Davidson was the man of the Match today with good rucking and support work. There was positives to learn from today and we will be back fighting in future fixtures.

Squad: Davey Marsh, Aiden Hicks, Morgan Laws, Nathan Gash, Scott Heathfield, Thomas Davidson, Rhys Price, Daniel Coleman, Muammer Cinar, Frasier Ewan, Luke Franks
